The Right Band for the Right Man
It’s no secret that when it comes to wedding rings, women’s bands get the lion’s share of the discussion. But what about your man? His ring matters just as much as hers. A man’s wedding ring is still a distinct symbol of his commitment, personality, and style. And there are as many men’s wedding bands as there are variations of ladies’ wedding rings. The trick is finding the one that matches your guy. You’ve already found the right man; now you have to find him the right ring. Fortunately, you two don’t need to do this alone. Whether you have an idea of what he wants or you’re totally lost, adrift in a sea of options, never fear: we’re here to help. We know a couple things about wedding rings.
The first thing you may want to consider is his style. A fiancé who loves Scandinavian modern furniture and sharp, minimalist architecture would probably really like a contemporary styled ring. The sleek and clean lines and emphasis on strong geometry would strike the right chord with this guy. The Euro Cobblestone Wedding Band might sound like a walk down a country lane, but it’s anything but. A stately pattern reminiscent of a cobblestone walkway runs through the center of a slightly squared shank.
If your future husband is proud of his Irish heritage, consider a Celtic knot inspired wedding band. The Galway Wedding Band perfectly represents the eternal nature of love and the strength of the marriage bond. For the men who like a little more pizazz (if I were a man, this would definitely be me), how about a wedding band with diamonds? Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but they can be pretty chummy with the boys too. Men’s diamond bands are a very classic style that a lot of traditional men really like. Men’s diamond wedding bands don’t generally have as many diamonds as their ladies’ counterparts, but Timeless has something for every man who fancies the brilliant fire of diamonds. Most men’s bands have one to three diamonds. My personal favorite men’s diamond wedding band is the Ice Bridge Wedding Band. A rectangular diamond literally bridges the gap between two sides of the ring.
But diamonds aren’t for everyone. When we started wedding ring shopping for him, my husband was very specific: no diamonds or stones of any kind. But for the man who wants his ring to have some elegant design elements and uniqueness, suggest a ring with milgrained edges or a small-scale carved pattern on the center of the band. The Double Milgrain Prestige Wedding Band is a great example of a traditional ring with a twist of personality. The Twin Bridge Wedding Band features a center detailed pattern of a large scale milgrain/chain link look. No matter the style, you’ll be able to find a ring that will subtly show your man’s personality.
Another key to keep in mind is your guy’s lifestyle. Wedding rings are worn every day; most people wear them all day. I myself only take off my rings to bake or garden. My precious has a lot of open work and filigree and I can imagine a few things that are more romantic than a wedding ring caked in flour and dirt. The same consideration needs to go in to your man’s ring. Does he work in a setting where his hands will be getting dirty? Does he work in landscaping? Is he a chef? An open work design may not be the best choice. For the man who works with his hands, a better option might be a simple and sophisticated gold band. But a simple gold band isn’t so simple really. Its simplicity is deceptive, because Timeless offers so many options.
With a plain gold band, you’ll need to choose the karat (that’s how much of the metal is pure gold). Fourteen karat is pretty standard in the US, but in addition to 14k, Timeless also carries 10k and 18k in most rings. Beyond the karat weight, you have the width of the band to consider. If you are wearing the ring and you look down at it, the width is the top to bottom measurement between your knuckles (which you might normally consider the height, but in a ring, it’s the width). We carry from 2mm, which is a more delicate style for the man who wants to downplay his jewelry, to some striking 8mm rings, perfect for the bold and extroverted guy.
If your man isn’t the gold type, there are other options. We carry an impressive collection of titanium rings. Titanium rings, while not made of a precious metal, have their own appeal. They are more durable, in that titanium is harder than gold, so it won’t scratch the way gold can. Titanium is also lighter weight, which is an important consideration for men who may not love the feeling of wearing a ring. For an in-depth look at titanium rings, check out this blog.
The hardest part of ring shopping is narrowing down your options. But all you really need to do is spend a little time reflecting on who your future husband is and what kind of ring would best fit that. You found the right man. Now find him the right ring.
