Famous: Getting the Look of Celebrity Wedding Rings
From their clothes to jewelry to the restaurants they eat in, celebrities help drive trends. We are fueled by a bizarre desire to recreate as much of their seemingly magical lives as we can. I’ll be honest: I’ll never be able to afford the houses they have or the clothes they wear. I’ll probably never be able to afford most of their jewelry either, but hey, that is not stopping me from trying. With that in mind, I thought we could spend today going over some of the best specimens in celebrity wedding rings…and how to get the same look without the giant price tag. When it comes to ladies’ and men’s wedding bands, Timeless Wedding Bands can’t be topped. No matter what style you’re looking for, we’ve got what you need. The rings we’ll talk about today are extremely versatile and fashionable, while ...Read More »
Will You..Tell Me How to Propose on Valentine's Day?
Yes, yes I will. Because I am a busybody who loves to tell other people how to live their lives. And also because I am a devoted enthusiast of weddings, romance, love, and happily-ever-afters. Joking aside, I understand the pressure that comes along with asking someone to spend the rest of their life with you. The night my husband proposed was one of my favorite nights ever. I don’t know if he would describe it in those exact words. He was uncharacteristically nervous, so I knew something was afoot. I figured it was the proposal, since we had been talking about getting married for quite a number of months, but knowing didn’t change the beauty of it. We live outside of Detroit, so he took me to a Red Wings hockey game (in which they DESTROYED the Nashville Predators) and then to dinner at a jazz restaurant in the GM Renaissance Center. For ...Read More »

It’s alright), but the fact is, the most romantic of holidays is nearly upon us. Valentine’s Day is in just a few weeks. So fellas, instead of stressing out about the perfect gift for your lady or the most romantic evening this side of Hollywood, let me give you a little tip: jewelry. It’s the gift that is sure to impress and excite your girl. Because this season of lovey-dovey emotions warms my heart and the die-hard romantic in me is living the dream, I am devoting today’s blog entirely to Valentine’s Day jewelry gift ideas. And the Timeless Award For Best Oscars Bling Goes to..
Last year, I started a new tradition. I invite my girlfriends over, we eat fattening and indulgent snacks in our pajamas, watch the Academy Awards, and cruelly dissect the attendees’ clothes and jewels (which we’ll never be able to afford). Truthfully, we’re not horribly mean. And most of the gossip is about what we like the best, so unless it’s truly a tragic fashion moment, we’re pretty forgiving. However, since I’m being honest, I have to say that I generally pay more attention to the jewelry than the clothes. I love clothing, and the Oscars is the finest parade of couture you’ll ever see, but it is also a walking showcase of the talents and skills possessed by some of the most brilliant and creative jewelry designers imaginable. The jewelry that is worn on Oscar night inspires me. To some, my love of jewelry may seem shallow, and that’s fine (they’re wrong, ...Read More »
Don't Say It, Show it: Ways To Say " I Love You " Without Saying It
It’s a strange feeling, when you’re in love. At first, the weight of the words almost stifles your ability to breathe, much less form a coherent sentence. Then, as comfort grows and gradually replaces the awkwardness that you pray your mate always found secretly endearing, saying “I love you” becomes so routine that it’s almost robotic. That doesn’t mean it’s any less true than it was when you were rendered mute. It’s just that your love and relationship have evolved past the simplest (and yet, oddly, hardest-to-say) phrase in the history of human relationships. After 13 and a half years together (what?!), my husband and I still say “I love you” to each other daily. But it’s not those three little words that let me know that the love between us is stronger than in was over a decade ago. ...Read More »
Mix or Match: How to Mix Your Metal Colors
Growing up, I was always taught that accessories need to match. Brown belt? Brown shoes, of course. Yellow gold earrings? Yellow gold necklace, obviously. And heaven forbid you carry a white bag after Labor Day (although, to be honest, I still semi-abide by this fashion tradition. A white bag seems so light and springy). Thankfully, as my style evolved, I began to see these rules as dated and restrictive. Most of the fashion and style world tends to agree. Mixing styles, metals, and colors is no longer the faux pas it used to be. Now, you can mix to your heart’s content. Now, my mom will tell you that I have always dressed to the beat of my own drummer. My style is pretty eclectic. I am known for odd combinations and jewelry. All of the jewelry. Fine, costume, I don’t care; I love it all. I’m Elizabeth Taylor…without the budget. I ...Read More »
Culture Club: India
A few weeks ago, we delved into some Mexican wedding traditions in our first installment in the Culture Club series. Today, we’ll be looking at some Indian wedding traditions in more detail. As you probably know, India is the second most populous country in the world, second only to China. With a population of just over 1.3 billion people, India accounts for about one-fifth of the world’s population. With 1.3 billion people, I would reckon that their wedding business is booming! I can’t think of a better place to expand our cultural horizons than in India. Although India is home to people of many different faiths, a whopping 79.8% of their population is Hindu (as of 2015). One of the biggest differences in Indian weddings is the fact that they often last several days. Over the course of three or four days, different rituals and ...Read More »
Style Icon: Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
The fascination with high society fashion is nothing new. Americans respond strongly to the fashion and style aesthetics of celebrities and the power elite. A few months ago, I took you on a loving trip through Elizabeth Taylor’s jewelry box. We discovered new depths about who Liz was and how deeply she connected with her jewelry. The unique power of jewelry to tell the powerful and personal story of a single life is remarkable. And so now, with the release of a movie honoring her on the horizon, I would like to draw your attention to another of my favorite style icons: Jacqueline Kennedy. The wife of the 35th President of the United States, “Jackie” became a household name, synonymous with style, class, and poise. Her polished and simple elegance inspired many recognizable trends (like the pillbox hat or a multi-strand necklace of pearls). To ...Read More »
Something Old and Something New: Pairing Heirloom and Modern Jewelry
When I got married, I didn’t register for fine china. I knew that one day, my paternal grandmother’s china would become mine. The china was passed down to my father, and as my dad’s only daughter, the torch has been passed to me. For years, I ogled the china in my mother’s china cabinet, amazed at the gold leaf and scalloped edges whenever the china was paraded out at holiday mealtimes. And now it graces my dining room table for an annual Christmas dinner party my husband and I throw for some good friends. My favorite heirloom (which is just something of value that is passed down from generation to generation, according to Merriam Webster) is my china (and a charming wooden rocking chair that belonged to my other grandmother when she was a girl). But some people (men and women alike) are blessed to have jewelry passed down to ...Read More »
Say It With Stones: How to Incorporate Meaning With Diamonds and Colored Stones
Jewelry is personal. The mere fact that is was selected and given to you makes is special and meaningful. But the clever jewelry-buyer can up the ante, so to speak, and incorporate fuller meaning by carefully using diamonds and colored gemstones to add layers of meaning and significance. If you’re the creative type, you probably have some glittering ideas floating around in your mind already, but if you’re not, never fear: Rebecca is here. The first thing to deal with is the occasion of the jewelry-gifting. Is this an anniversary? Birthday? Push present? It might seem like the occasion isn’t the most relevant, but it can actually provide the perfect backdrop for the perfect gift. With that in mind, I’m going to break this down for you by category. But no matter the category, this warning will ring true: do not wait until the eleventh hour. ...Read More »
